POLE MOVES & COMBOS: Stargazer Flip

Learn this advanced dynamic flip dismount from Stargazer! This tutorial will guide you through 5 separate "chunks":

  1. Stargazer
  2. Brass Monkey
  3. Stargazer to Brass Monkey: dismount with training wheel
  4. Dismount without training wheel
  5. Making it more dynamic!

Once you've mastered the individual steps, we'll combine it all together. Read below for the final Stargazer breakdown.

Level: Int-Adv

Steps:

  1. Start in a Stargazer
  2. Outside hand grabs above the top knee; inside hand grabs below knee, both in "handshake grip" (thumbs wrapped and pointed up toward the ceiling)
  3. Lean towards top knee as you bend the bottom leg and release it, pushing your hips forward in front of the pole. Make sure both your sits bones are on the same side of the pole.
  4. Sweep the bottom leg up as you lay your upper body back and release the top arm. As you lay back, follow the gaze of your hand as you. Maintain a gentle hamstring engagement of the inside knee and think about gently pulling the heel down towards the sits bone.
  5. Once you have fully laid back, lift your chin, extend through the neck and look at the floor as you reach your outside arm behind the pole into the elbow or forearm. The outside of your neck should now be in contact with the pole and your gaze toward the floor. You should feel the pole resting in the crease between your shoulder/trapezius and the neck.
  6. Continue sweeping the free leg directly up and over, eventually pointing those toes toward the floor.
  7. Pull with the inside arm, gently press the bottom elbow/arm into the pole, and release the inside knee, landing with your outside foot first, followed by the inside foot.
  8. Make sure and land with the legs separated about hip-width to maintain balance.
  9. Once you are comfortable with these steps, try executing the flip faster by throwing the free arm back behind the pole as you dismount.
